Scientific Name: Megachile nevadensis Cresson, 1879

Common Name: Nevada Leafcutter Bee

Taxonomy

Megachile nevadensis Cresson, 1879: 209 [♀, ♂].

Lectotype ♂‚ designated by Cresson (1916: 125). USA, Nevada, by Morrison [ANSP no. 2468]

Taxonomic notes: Mitchell (1936: 362) (and see Sheffield and Westby 2007: 180) suggested that M. hookeri Cockerell, 1915, known only from the ♀, might be a synonym of M. nevadensis Cresson, 1879; in his original description, Cockerell (1915: 534) indicated that it resembled M. manifesta, but larger and otherwise different. Mitchell’s (1936: 362) account was that it might represent a colour variety, with only subtle structural differences.
