Taxonomy

Megachile mucida Cresson, 1878: 118 [♂ only, ♀ misidentified] (not Megachile mudica Pérez, 1895 = M. albipila Pérez, 1895).

     Lectotype ♂, designated by Cresson (1916: 125). USA, Georgia [ANSP no. 2424].

Megachile mucida semimucida Cockerell, 1909: 26 [♀, ♂]. Synonymy by Mitchell (1926: 118).

     Syntypes ♀, ♂. USA, Texas, Lee County, Fedor, 27 March 1909, by Birkmann [].

Megachile audax Mitchell, 1924: 161 [♂]. Synonymy by Mitchell (1926: 118).

     Holotype ♂. USA, North Carolina, Raleigh, 8 May 1922, on Rubus [NC State Department of Agriculture].

 

Taxonomic notes: The ♀ of Cresson’s Megachile mucida Cresson, 1878 was M. gemula Cresson, 1878 (Mitchell 1935: 181). Thus, the first ♀ described for M. mucida was that of Megachile mucida semimucida Cockerell, 1909 (Mitchell 1935: 197).
