Colletes compactus compactus Cresson, 1868

Properties

Scientific Name: Colletes compactus compactus Cresson, 1868

Common Name: Compact Plasterer Bee

Taxonomy

Colletes compacta Cresson 1868: 166 [♀, ♂].

Lectotype ♀ [deisgnated by Cresson (1916: 107). USA, Illinois [ANSP no. 2144].

Taxonomic Notes: When this species was described, Cresson (1868: 166) described syntype ♀s and ♂s from Connecticut and Illinois that were at ANSP, but did not clearly indicate how many specimens of each sex or location. Swenk (1908: 27) indicated a type locality of Connecticut, but did not select a specific specimen, indicating that types were at ANSP. Thus, Cresson’s (1916: 107) lectotype designation of the ♀ specimen from Illinois [ANSP no. 2144] is considered the correct deisgnation.
