Taxonomic notes: Cockerell (1907: 246) synonymized Andrena leptanthi Viereck and Cockerell, 1904 as the ♂ of Andrea porterae Cockerell, 1900, commenting on their dimorphic appearance; Linsley (1937) provided a details account of the effect of stylopization on ♀ A. porterae, the specimen which showed reversal of sexual charateristics to a point that it confirmed the synonymy of A. leptanthi. LaBerge (1985: 474) incorrectly indicated that only W.P. Cockerell (as W.P. Porter) collected the holotype of A. leptanthi, and incorrectly recorded the catalogue number as no. 4220.

Cockerell (1914a: 9) indicated that though H.L. Viereck believed that A. neurona was identical to A. berberbidis, there were distinct differences between them.
