Taxonomy

     Lectotype ♀, designated by LaBerge (1973: 335). USA, Illinois, Carlinville, by C. Robertson [INHS Robertson no. 1012].

Andrena (Trachandrena) davisiana Viereck and Cockerell, 1914: 6 [♂]. Synonymy by LaBerge (1973: 333).

     Holotype ♂. USA, Colorado, Boulder, 8 May 1907, by J.M. Davis [CAS no. 15326].

Andrena (Trachandrena) pseudobscura Mitchell, 1960: 193 [♂]. Synonymy by LaBerge (1973: 333).

     Holotype ♂. USA, North Carolina, Raleigh, 16 March 1945, by T.B. Mitchell, on Salix [USNM no. 75187].

 

Taxonomic notes: LaBerge (1973: 335) incorrectly recorded details of the type specimen of Andrena davisiana Viereck and Cockerell, 1914 as “May 8, 1917”, and collected “ by I. M. Davis”; in the original work, the collection year recorded was 1907, and collected by J.M. Davis.

Distribution in Canada: C.S. Sheffield, in City of Toronto 2016 [ON].

Inclusion of this species in ON in the “Bees of Toronto” booklet was based on an observation recorded on Discover Life (Ascher and Pickering 2015); its presence in ON has now been confirmed [pers. comm., Steven Paiero, University of Guelph].
