Andrena hilaris Smith, 1853

Properties

Scientific Name: Andrena hilaris Smith, 1853

Common Name: Andrena hilaris

Taxonomy

Andrena hilaris Smith, 1853: 112 [♀].

Holotype ♀. USA, Georgia [BMNH no. 17.a.1386].

Distribution in Canada: Provancher 1882 [Canada?]; Harrington 1894 [ON]; Brodie and White 1883 [Canada]; Criddle et al. 1924 [ON].

This species was not recorded from Canada by Bouseman and LaBerge (1979: 354, and see map on page 334) who considered it an uncommon species of the southeast, though with a range extending into New York State. Its resemblance to A. nivalis Smith (Bouseman and LaBerge 1979: 351) may suggest that the material from Ontario recorded by Harrington (1894: 14) and Criddle et al. (1924: 97) may have been misidentied, though it is kown from the adjacent United States.
